So… COVID-19 is here and it’s serious. How should that impact your winery visits?
Every time I’ve gotten to go backstage at a Virginia winery, I’ve found nothing but the best hygienic practices. Know that these have now been bumped up another notch. Many wineries have increased the frequency of their cleaning.
Respect social distances. Several wineries won’t be able to accommodate quite as many guests at their tasting bar. They’re doing the best they can–please be patient! This is a great weekend to utilize outdoor spaces and spread yourself out. Looking for a quieter time? Try visiting on a Friday afternoon or Sunday morning.
Please don’t go to a winery if you are feeling unwell. Stay in and avoid exposing other people to illness.
If you are healthy and visiting a winery, continue to wash your hands and use hand sanitizer.
At the end of the day, many of our Virginia wineries are small businesses that could use your support as uncertainty looms. If you don’t feel comfortable to visit, that’s okay. It’s not an overreaction to be a homebody for a while. But if you’d still like to support Virginia wine, look at ordering shipments from local wineries or purchasing a gift card for later.
Stay safe! It’s a really weird time but we’ll get through it.
